Welcome to Day 4 of 10 Days to a Peaceful Home and Homeschool.
If you’ve been following along, we’ve already revisited your purpose, cleared one small space, and looked at systems we can implements to really thrive in our homes and homeschools. Now it’s time to talk about mornings, and how to begin the day with peace instead of pressure.
Because how we start sets the tone for everything that follows.

Peaceful Mornings Don’t Just Happen

They’re cultivated gently and simply.
You don’t need to wake at 5 a.m. or do a full routine before your kids are up. You just need one simple thing that grounds you in peace before the day takes off.
I would encourage you not to start your day with your smartphone. I know it’s tempting for all of us, but it can really set the tone for you in a negative way, especially if you’re starting with emails or social media.
In the book, Habits of the Household, Justin Whitmel Early suggests beginning the day by looking to the Scriptures before looking at your smartphone. He writes,
“Going to Scripture before we go to our smartphones is another small way to pattern the morning in the reality of God’s love. But given the black-hole allure of the smartphone, it is probably oen of the most radical habits of he household you can cling to. In turning our gaze to Scripture, we turn our gaze to the face of God, and find him looking back at us.”
Here are some ideas for beginning your day, or even a nice order for a morning routine:
- A cup of coffee and Scripture or a devotional
- A quiet journal moment while the kids play nearby
- A short walk outside before breakfast
- Lighting a candle and preparing the table for the day
- Reading aloud together to begin the day with connection
Your Presence Is the Atmosphere

Charlotte Mason reminded us that “education is an atmosphere.”
And you, mama, are the heart of that atmosphere.
If your day starts rushed, reactive, and scattered it’s hard for peace to take root. But if you begin with calm and a plan, your children feel it, too.
It’s not about doing everything. It’s about doing the first thing well.
Journal Prompts for Today
Take a few minutes to write freely in your journal:
- How do our mornings usually feel?
- What’s one small shift I could make to create more calm?
- What would it look like to start the day with presence instead of pressure?
- What does my soul need first thing in the morning?
Start where you are. Choose one thing. Let it become a habit of peace.
Today, I invite you to create a simple morning anchor, just one thing that brings peace to your day.
Then tell me: What did you try?
Tomorrow, we’ll talk about creating peaceful learning spaces.
