I was 14 years old the day that I saw the man I was going to marry. He was tall with brown hair and brown eyes. I remember he was wearing Wrangler jeans and cowboy boots. Going to a small church meant that you noticed any new person who walked through the door. When I saw him, I knew there was something special about him.

Weeks passed and I never found the courage to talk to him. I learned he was quite a bit older than me at 19, but I honestly didn’t care too much. It wasn’t long before he stopped coming to church. His friend let us all know that he was being deployed to Iraq. My heart sank.
