Six weeks have officially come and gone since my little Isaac was born. I look down at this baby boy. His blue eyes look into mine imploringly, taking in everything in his new world. It’s amazing how much your life can change in six weeks. It’s happened with each of my babies. After they are here safely in my arms I can’t remember what life was like without them. Isaac is the sixth person in our family, and he is the little piece that fits perfectly.
I’ve spent many of my days snuggling him close. Taking in that baby scent and covering him with kisses. I’ve held his little body and felt the skin that is so soft. One of my favorite things to do as a new mama is lay his head on my chest and rest my cheek on top of his soft, downy hair.
He’s had some run of the mill evening cry sessions. I don’t remember my other babies doing it as much as Isaac, but it’s gotten better much to my relief. Hearing my babies cry pains me. He sleeps okay, but does have a little reflux that wakes him frequently and scares me when he chokes.
I’ve been blessed to nurse him. Three out of four of my children have been breastfed. It comes naturally to me at this point, but I had to remind myself that little Isaac is new at it, so it’s understandable that he has had to adjust to it. My letdown was too fast for him, but both my supply and his ability to nurse are evening out.
My third little baby has had the biggest adjustment to his new little brother. He can’t stand it when mama has to nurse the baby when he wants mama all to himself. I’m praying that things get better soon and eventually they will be the best of buddies. He does love to hold him and give him kisses at least!
My older two kids have been great helpers. They bring diapers and ask to hold him. We have gotten back to homeschooling and even started back to co-op recently. Life with four littles is crazy, exhausting, and sometimes frustrating, but I am convinced it is the best time of my life. We have a lot of fun together and I know I will miss these days when they are gone. These little people and their daddy are my world!
