Packing, Moving, and Unpacking

I’m writing this blog post from my new living room. We are currently totally overrun with boxes! It’s such a mess. We figured out we didn’t plan this move very well, and we have a lot more stuff than we originally thought we did. My original plan was to totally declutter the house before packing, but that did not work out. Trying to do a lot of decluttering with four kids ages six and under by myself would have taken weeks. We really did not have weeks and weeks.
I attempted to pack some things on my own, but didn’t get very far. We ended up having my in-laws come over and they packed up the kitchen, living room, and the kids’ rooms. They moved all of that stuff to our new house and we ran out of time for them to continue helping us move. There was still A LOT left to move, so we ended up hiring movers. Even after they pretty much worked an 8 hour day, we still have a very few items to get from inside the old house, as well as our outside play toys for the kids, our things in storage, our container plants, and our patio furniture.
Moving has been completely exhausting and expensive. The movers were very expensive, we’ve eaten out more than usual, and we have had to pay for some stuff to do some repairs to our previous home. We still think it’s worth it to save money in the long run.
Our new house is right on the base lake. We had a fence installed yesterday, mainly to keep our toddler contained, and we have found we have a few new pets. The ducks love to come and visit us! It’s been so cute.
I already LOVE having a smaller house. Everything is within reach. No more going downstairs to do laundry or school. I like the layout of our new house so much better.
Well, there’s lots of unpacking to do, so I’m getting back to it. Moving is a chore!

How cute that the ducks come and visit and how neat to have a lake in the back yard. Once you are unpacked things will get better. At least this gives you a chance to go through things. I want a bigger house as this house is small but at the same time it’s like you almost stay on top of things a little more as you have less room to put things. Good luck with the unpacking.
Thank you Stacie! We are enjoying our new home! Less space makes clean up easier for me!
Congratulations for moving in your new home! It is great that you did everything and you can already relax and enjoy the new place! Moving house was pretty harsh for you as you have a toddler to take care of. I know how it feels… Last year we moved apartment with a small kid and it was so stressful and exhausting. Thanks for sharing! All the best!
