Our baby boy is 1 month old. In a way it seems like it can’t be possible. In other ways the days have seemed so very long.
His first week or so was spent crying unless perfectly content at Mommy’s side. He did not even let me take his picture!
Over time he got better and better at sitting contently. He loves his Fisher Price Cradle swing. It’s been a life saver.
His favorite things to do are to nurse and watch the lights and the fan. He loves the sound of the fan, too. It’s very soothing for him.
Motherhood has taken its toll on me this past month. To go from having two kids and my husband around to help every day to having three kids and my husband gone has been pretty much awful. I miss him. My family has helped us out so much, and I’m slowly getting back to being able to take care of everything I usually do, but it’s a challenge. I fall into bed exhausted every night and I’m usually up dealing with at least one child, and more often than not, all three throughout the night.
As tiring as everything is right now, as much as I want the days to pass quickly so my husband can get home to us, I also want the days to be slow. I want to relish this little baby God has given me. His baby noises, his baby smell. His chubby cheeks that are filling out nicely. I want him to stay a small little bundle forever, but I know how fast it goes.
My husband told me this morning that he really missed the baby. I feel so bad for him. He and I both know what he’s missing. Holding his little baby body against his chest. First laugh, rolling over, sitting up. He’ll probably miss his first steps, too.
Baby O has been on two shopping trips so far. I kept him snug as bug in the Moby wrap on our last trip and he slept the whole time. Everyone stared at us. I don’t think I live around a lot of baby wearers! Someone even wanted to know where to get one because it is “the neatest thing!”
Bug and Sis are so in love with him. They haven’t been jealous at all. I love being able to give my children siblings.

Hi, your blog about your first month moved me. In March, I went from having 2 kids to 3, and my husband couldn’t even take off from work to help me after I got home. I want to tell you what I have learned from the experience – the first few months of having 3 will be really hard. My other two were 4 and 2 days away from 2 when my 3rd was born. When she was born, and for the first few months, she cried nonstop. She made everything more complicated. If she wasn’t held (even in a certain way), she was mad. If we put her down to change our middle child, she screamed. If we walked out of the room, she cried and held her breath until we walked back in. She would be full, changed, and even fully rested, but if one of us was not holding her, she became livid. After the first month, she started refusing the pacifier. The only “help” that I had was now no longer usable. The fussing and screaming came to the degree where I really started resenting her. We went from being a happy, organized family of four to pure chaos once we became a family of five. Honestly, I had a hard time getting close to her because she was just so draining. I didn’t get to bed until after midnight for catching up on all of my chores (and full-time college work), and the baby woke me every hour after that. When 7 AM came, I was awakened by my older two. I thought about running away so many times. I was so ashamed of myself because I thought that I was a good mother and I never had feelings of that nature with my older two. However, since about a month ago, once my baby hit 8 months old, she became a much better, happier, pleasant baby. All 3 of them have gotten into the same routines with nap and bed time, and I can’t believe how organized my life is now compared to a couple of months ago. I guess what I am trying to tell you is, it does get better! Once the baby started sleeping through the night, I did get my rest, but her fussing all day exhausted me. I wonder now if she had colic, something that I never experienced with my other 2. So hang in there, some days it can get really rough, and you feel like throwing in the towel, but you will adjust. My thoughts go out to you and congratulations – a 4th might be in my future so I’m getting prepared for the roller coaster of chaos once again. 🙂 God bless you and your beautiful family.
Jamie, thank you so much for sharing your story. I know how stressful a baby crying is. Your story is so encouraging. It’s so comforting to know others have been down this road. Thank you again.
