Sis’s Birth Story

It’s time for the birth story of my second baby, my sweet baby girl. Things went a lot smoother during her birth than they did during my first birth. It was actually extremely easy. You will see that I was induced with cytotec. Everywhere I read that you should refuse to be induced with cytotec, and all of the information on it is so scary. I definitely don’t want to use it again, even though I had no complications from it. My daughter was born very quickly (maybe it was partly because of the cytotec?), with the cord wrapped around her neck. She was purple when she was born. That was scary, but everything turned out okay. 

Here’s Sis’s birth story written just a few days after it happened:

Unfortunately, I had another induction.  I really wanted to avoid induction, but this time we waited until just two days before my due date.  My ob was afraid Sis would be big like Bug was, and I did not want to risk any child birth complications because of that.  My induction began on September 30^th at 8 a.m.  I was given cytotec, which made me nervous, but actually went very smoothly.  I felt little pain with my contractions until the ob broke my water.  That’s when the contractions really got going.  Since I was already 4 cm, I opted to go ahead and get my epidural.  I’m pretty lucky with epidurals because they do not completely numb me.  I can feel my legs enough to still move them on my own. 

I was checked at noon and had dilated to 5 cm.  Around 1 p.m., I felt a strong urge like it was getting close to time to push and I was trembling.  The nurse checked me and I was almost complete!  Around 2, the nurses came back in and it was time to push.  They had me do a practice push and the nurse was shocked at how well I was pushing and would not let me push anymore.  They called my doctor and had me start pushing again.  I pushed through two contractions and she began to crown.  My ob was not even ready to catch her, so I had to stop while she was crowning.  I felt the burning, but luckily it was nothing compared to my last birth.

When my ob was ready I got to push her head out.  This is where we ran into some child birth complications.  I had noticed Sis’s heart rate decelerated each time I pushed and was told it was probably just from the contractions, but nope, Sis’s cord was wrapped tight around her neck twice.  It was such a scary experience.  My ob worked fast to remove it and Sis was born.  She was purple and so still.  In those few moments before her first cry I was scared.  My ob reassured me that she was fine and she finally cried!  They put her on my belly and I got to see her for the first time.  She did have bruises and broken blood vessels on her face.  She also had hemorrhages in the whites of her eyes that will take a few weeks to completely clear.

Sis was born at 2:30 p.m. weighing 8 pounds 7 ounces and was 20 inches long.  She is so tiny compared to Bug and she was born with brown hair!  I was shocked because I thought she would be bald and blonde!  She is such a beautiful little girl and has been an awesome baby.  Bug is doing pretty well adjusting to having her in the house.  We have had our ups and downs, but hopefully they will be great playmates in a few months!  

And I’m happy to report that my kids are practically inseparable. They fight with each other, but they love each other like crazy.
