Welcome to Day 1 of our series, 10 Days to a Peaceful Home and Homeschool!
If you feel like your homeschool is running on fumes, your days are a jumbled mess, and you’re just trying to get through the work, this series is for you.
Before we talk about routines, decluttering, or simplifying curriculum, we need to begin with something deeper, and that is your vision.
Because peace doesn’t start with your home or your schedule. It starts with you and your entire reason for doing this homeschool thing.
For this series, I’m going to encourage you to keep a notebook or journal handy. We are going to be taking lots of notes to help us bring this entire vision of peace to life.
Why Did You Begin Homeschooling?
Take a moment to reflect on what led you to this path.
Maybe you longed for freedom and flexibility.
Maybe you wanted more time with your kids.
Maybe you felt called by God to build something different for your family.
Whatever your reasons, they are the motivating factors behind homeschooling. Homeschooling is not the easy path, and you wouldn’t choose to do it unless you had some really important reasons, so now is a great time to reflect on those.
Today is about reconnecting with your why. Not the version from years ago, but your “why” right now, in this current season of life and learning.
Homeschooling is about so much more than just the academics we teach our children. Our homes aren’t just tiny “schools.” They are the safe havens that will shae our children now and for eternity.
“There is great value to building a secure and beautiful home life for everyone who dwells there. Home gives deep roots and a heritage of profound faith and provides a place of innocence, where gradually one may grow strong. Home provides a place of belonging in an isolationist world. Home gives us a people to belong to in a committed community of unconditional love. Home provides a place to celebrate and uphold godly character, righteous choices, living faith undistracted by the daily draws of the world. Home is a shelter in the midst of life’s storms. Home is a lighthouse to others who are lost in the storms of life. The keeping of home shapes people forever.”
-Sally Clarkson, Awaking Wonder
A Peaceful Home Begins with Purpose
When we lose sight of our purpose, our days can feel frantic and frustrating. We hustle through lessons, chase clean counters, and wonder why it all feels like so much.
But when we begin again with intention, we remember:
You’re not just managing a home, you’re shaping a family culture.
You are building something lasting and shaping your children now, which will affect generations to come.
Journal Prompts for Today
I encourage you to grab a quiet moment, maybe early morning or during afternoon rest, and write freely in a notebook or journal.
Here are a few prompts to guide you:
- Why did I choose to homeschool?
- What does “peace” look like in my home? What does it feel like?
- What kind of atmosphere do I want to create in our days?
- What are 3 words I want to define our home and homeschool?
Don’t think too hard on these questions, just write what comes to your mind.
If you feel led, I’d love for you to share part of your reflection in the comments. Sometimes your words are exactly the encouragement someone else needs.
Tomorrow we’ll take our first small action step by clearing one little space.
