Homeschooling is a beautiful gift, but it isn’t always easy. There are seasons when life feels heavy… when the house is loud, your heart is tired, and everything takes a little more effort. Maybe you’re walking through a move, illness, grief, pregnancy, postpartum, financial stress, or another kind of trial. Whatever your hard season looks like, I want you to know this: you are not alone.
In my most recent vlog, I’m sharing a bit of what our family has walked through and how we’ve learned to keep homeschooling even when life isn’t picture perfect. Below, I’ve gathered some encouragement and practical tips that have helped me through those difficult days.

Give Yourself (and Your Kids) Extra Grace
The first thing I’ve had to remind myself during tough times is that it’s okay if things don’t look “normal.”
Some seasons call for slower mornings, less structure, or even stepping back from a full schedule. Learning happens in everyday life. It’s ok to take a break, breathe a little, and get your life back on track.
If all you get to today is reading aloud and loving on your children, that’s enough. Truly.
Simplify Your Homeschool Plan
I call this the Minimum Homeschool Day. What are the minimum subjects your kids can focus on each day that would still give them a full education. Focus on those only. For us, that often means:
- Morning time or read-alouds (often with audiobooks)
- Math and language arts
- Quiet play
Everything else can wait or be gently folded in as energy returns.
Lean into Routines, Not Rigid Schedules
During hard seasons, routines can give your family a sense of security. But a strict schedule can feel overwhelming.
Think gentle anchors rather than a minute-by-minute plan. Meals, story time, outdoor breaks, and bedtime can create a simple rhythm that keeps your days moving forward without pressure.
Ask for Help and Let Things Go
This is not the time to do everything yourself. It’s okay to order takeout, let the laundry pile up a little, or say “no” to extra activities.
If friends or family offer help, accept it. If they don’t, look for small ways to make your load lighter. Your homeschool doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. I would suggest utilizing online classes, documentaries, and audiobooks.
Remember: This Season Won’t Last Forever
The hard seasons may stretch and feel endless, but they do pass. Homeschooling gives us the gift of time with our children even when it’s messy, imperfect, and hard. One day you’ll look back and see how much you grew during this season.
So, breathe deep. You’re doing a beautiful job, even if it doesn’t feel that way right now.
Homeschooling through hard seasons is less about doing it all and more about doing what matters most. Slow down. Give yourself grace. Focus on connection, not perfection.

You are not alone, friend. Keep going.
