There’s just something magical about homeschooling in October. The air feels crisp, the leaves crunch underfoot, and our lessons seem to slow down into a beautiful rhythm. This is one of my favorite months to bring our learning outdoors, celebrate the season, and make memories as a family.
If you’re looking for simple, engaging ideas to weave into your homeschool this month, here are 31 cozy October homeschool activities — one for each day!
Nature + Seasonal Learning

- Make a leaf sun catcher with wax paper and your favorite autumn leaves.
- Start a leaf identification notebook and learn about the trees around you.
- Observe migrating birds and sketch them in a nature journal.
- Learn about the life cycle of a pumpkin — from seed to harvest.
- Visit an apple orchard or pumpkin patch for a hands-on field trip.
- Dissect a pumpkin and label all of its parts.
- Do an apple taste test with a few varieties — graph your family’s favorites!
- Plant fall bulbs and talk about how they’ll rest through the winter.

- Make “witch’s brew” oobleck slime using cornstarch and water.
