I really wanted to do something a bit fun this year. My kids absolutely love hot chocolate, and after seeing so many wonderful ideas for hot chocolate bars, I decided to set up a small space hot chocolate station so my older kids could help themselves to hot chocolate and top it with some goodies, too! Let me show you how I set this up in a tiny nook in my kitchen!

What do you put in a hot cocoa bar?
I have a pretty tiny space in my kitchen for my coffee. I have my Keurig in that space, and then I typically use the drawers and cabinets to house all of my coffee supplies. This is also where we prepare hot chocolate. We can use the Keurig to get plain hot water for our mugs and then mix up the hot chocolate pretty easily.

I wanted to jazz up the space for the holidays, and I wanted to make my hot cocoa bar on a budget. This hot chocolate station was meant to stay up all season, so it’s not quite as elaborate as a hot chocolate bar you might make for a party. For our simple hot cocoa station I used:
- Vanilla syrup in a bottle
- Festive straws in a Target Dollar Spot milk jar
- Mini marshmallows in a mason jar with a Parmesan can lid
- Peppermint sticks in a Dollar Tree container
- Tea towel from the Target Dollar Spot
- Cute Sant mug I found at Target
- Reusable Starbucks cup
You may be wondering where the hot chocolate is. Well, I thought about putting the hot chocolate mix in a clear container, but there was just no space on the counter, so I stored it in the cabinet up above, along with extra mugs. That cabinet also holds my French press and coffee beans.
In the drawer below my hot cocoa station I have all of my teas and drink mixes.
In the drawer below that I keep K-cups for the Keurig.
All I did was place the Keurig on the tea towel for a festive pop, then I used a pedestal from Hobby Lobby to hold the marshmallows and straws. The small Dollar Tree container sat on the other side of the Keurig. That’s it! Easy peasy!

What are good toppings for hot chocolate?
There are lots of good things to put in hot chocolate to make the area even more fun if you have the space. I am thinking of adding a container of sprinkles. You can even use Piroulines, stir sticks, peppermint spoons, and candy canes! The possibilities are endless!

That’s a really cute idea. My 14 y/o son would love this, he really enjoys his hot cocoa. Thanks for the idea! Merry Christmas to you & your family!
