One of the things I absolutely love about homeschooling is the ability to go on field trips whenever we want! I remember when I was in the fifth grade I was so excited about taking a trip to Toltec Mounds, a local park with huge mounds made by Native Americans. Every fifth grade class before us had gone on this field trip. Well, a few kids behaved badly at an assembly and the teachers cancelled the field trip for our entire class! It was awful to not have that experience because a few kids ruined it. I have been determined to make sure my kids get those experiences. The Exploring Creation Field Trip Journal from Apologia Educational Ministries helps us record all of our trips!

Exploring Creation Field Trip Journal Review

Inside the Field Trip Journal you will find pages that contain field trip tips for parents, checklists for preparing for the field trip, field trip ideas and suggestions for exploring nature, maps for places your child has explored, specific pages for exploring your state, the U.S., and the world, special spot pages, and much more! This journal is the perfect keepsake to help your child slow down and explore their world. I also imagine it will be so much fun to go back and look at it years later.

How We Used the Field Trip Journal

I don’t think my son has ever been so excited to receive a review product in the mail. He was literally jumping up and down and so happy. He loves to draw and “write” stories, so I knew he would be excited to have his very own journal to record our adventures.

One of our latest field trips was to a travelling dinosaur program. It was a lot of fun. My boys especially loved it. There were dinosaurs for them to sit on, dinosaur exhibits that talked about the different periods, and a place where the kids could dig for fossils!

When we got home I had Bug work on his journal. He did the drawing, and I will go back in and write everything.

We also did a special spot page for spring. I had Bug observe our backyard. Each season we will come back to the same spot and note how it has changed.

Do We Recommend the Exploring Creation Field Trip Journal?

Yes! Bug loves his journal. The great thing about this journal is that it can be used by the whole family. There are so many ways you can adapt it to your family. It can be a scrapbook, a family trip keepsake, or you can use it like we are using at as a field trip journal and a way to observe our own yard. It’s versatile and fun!
