One area that is often overlooked when cleaning the kitchen is the range hood filter. This is the filter that is on the underside of your range hood. It catches all of the greasiness that splatters up while you are cooking and it can get really nasty. If you’re in need of some good cleaning tips, this post on how to clean a range hood filter will help you figure out how to clean that mess up over your stove!
How do you remove a range hood filter?
Range hood filters are fairly easy to remove. Look underneath your hood and you will see the filter. There is usually a little pull tab visible. Simply pull on the tab and the filter should come down. You’ll be able to see and probably feel just how greasy and gross your range hood filter is!
What is the best way to clean range hood filter?
I needed to clean our range hood filters before we moved out of our old house, so I decided the easiest way to get them clean was to fill my sink up with really hot water and then I added some Dawn dish detergent. I let the greasy range hood filter soak in the hot water and soap for about five minutes, and then I used a sponge to scrub it clean. Then I rinsed the range hood filters and let them air dry before placing them back under my range hood!
Another method for cleaning your dirty range hood filter is to use baking soda and salt. You can use a large pan, boil some water in it, dissolve baking soda and salt into the boiling water, then let your range hood filters simmer in the pot for about five minutes. Finish in the sink with a nice rinse.
If your range hood filter isn’t that dirty, you can place it in the dishwasher without any other dishes and let the dishwasher do all the work!
Do you want to clean your range hood filter without scrubbing? Place your range hood filter into a pan with two tablespoons of powdered dishwasher detergent and four cups of water. Let the mixture simmer with the range hood filter for 25 minutes, carefully remove from the pan, rinse, and dry!
How do you clean a greasy range hood?
Now that your range hood filter is clean, let’s work on the actual greasy range hood. My favorite cleaner for this job is half white vinegar, half water, and a couple of drops of Dawn dish detergent. I mix all of that up in a spray bottle and then spray the range hood down. I let it soak for a minute or two and then wipe clean! Easy peasy!
