The final room I am working on  is my master bedroom, my master closet in particular. Our master closet has been a neglected mess of a space since we moved in. We always use this space to store gifts before Christmas or birthdays and it’s just in serious need of a good clean out and some organization. When decluttering your home, you’ll definitely want to clean out your closet. Follow me as I do a big master closet declutter and organization!

How do I declutter my closet right now?

If you want to declutter your closet right now, the best thing you can do is just start. Set aside a few hours to go through all of the items.

Start with one section of your closet , take everything out, put items in the donation pile, the trash pile, and the keep pile, and then put everything you want to keep back in the closet in an organized manner.

How do I organize my master closet?

My biggest problem with organization is all of the piles of loose things all over the closet. I decided to solve that issue with storage bins. While in Walmart, I found some really large basket weave storage bins (similar to these). They are by the brand Your Zone, which seems to be geared more towards kids, but they looked like decent quality for the size and the price.

I decided to group like items together and store them in the bins for a more cohesive look. I have some of our wedding memorabilia in one basket, beach towels in another, and other little odds and ends in the last two.

Our toddler’s clothes are still being stored in our room, so I have some hanging in the closet and some in fabric storage bins.

I wanted to take a nicer approach with my clothes, so I am now hanging them by color. I spent a lot of time getting rid of things I never wear, so there are only items left in my closet that I do actually wear. I have not arranged and organized my husband’s clothes, though. I’m leaving that ball in his court.

Our shoes are stored on a tiered shoe storage rack and so far that’s it!

We do have a large safe in our closet. Important papers and expensive equipment is kept safe in it.

    Closet Declutter Before and After

Let’s take a look at our before and after pictures!

The biggest change for our closet was taking the loose items that were scattered all over the top of the closet and putting them in bins. It has also helped that I have greatly reduced the amount of clothes I’m keeping in the closet. I had so many things I no longer wear just hanging out in there.
