Are you ready to tackle the clutter in your home? I was overwhelmed by the amount of things in our home. I looked around and literally felt like I was being suffocated by clutter. I didn’t know how to declutter my home! The first step in taming that mess is to just start. But, where do you begin? The Clean and Declutter Challenge will give you direction while you simplify your home and life.
One of the biggest motivators I have found to help me tackle the clutter in my home is a declutter challenge. That is why I created the 30-Day Declutter Challenge. Each week you’ll walk through a different area of your home and tackle the clutter that lives there. This is a great time to get family members on board to help you take control of the crazy clutter and take the 30-day challenge with you!

The Declutter Your Home 30 Day Challenge

This challenge is not only about decluttering our spaces. We will also learn all about maintaining a decluttered space. You cannot simply declutter once.
In 30 days you will have decluttered a large portion of your home and figured out to maintain those decluttered spaces.
What areas are we going to tackle for each weekly challenge?
- Kitchen
- Entry Way/Dining Room/ Bathroom
- Living Room/Kids’ Rooms
- Master Bedroom

Let’s start with the kitchen declutter. There is nothing quite like having clear kitchen counters when you walk into your space to cook. You’ll learn how to pare down the items to what you actually need and use, clear your junk drawer, clean out and organize your kitchen drawers, and end with a pretty kitchen that you are excited to cook in!
I feel like the kitchen is always a great place to start decluttering because it is usually the busiest room in the entire home. Because the kitchen is the hub of the home, a lot of clutter can pile up here. Small appliances can overtake countertops and drawers can easily overflow. Even if your kitchen is a small space, you can absolutely make it functional for your family!

As part of our kitchen decluttering process, we’ll also tack the medicine cabinet and work out a great way to store prescription medications and help you get those first aid supplies in an accessible place. We’ll also work on the spice cabinet, the pantry, the fridge, and we’ll even tackle those pesky storage containers that we all seem to have too many of that just do not match.
The next few areas we will tackle is all of the excess clutter in the entry way, the dining room, and one bathroom. If you have a very cluttered home, these areas may take you longer than a week, but if you’re determined you can let go of things quickly and you’ll find you can make a big difference in these few rooms.
If your entry way contains a coat closet, this is a great time to clean it out. Donate items that are in good condition and throw away things in a trash bag that just need to go. If you have a china cabinet in your dining room, this will be the week you go through it and decide if you have unwanted items that need a new home. Breathe life into your space by clearing some of the clutter.

We are going to be ruthless in the bathroom declutter. Purging the bathroom counters is my favorite way to make the bathroom instantly look better. Cleared off flat surfaces make a huge difference in how a room looks and feels. Of course, we’ll clean out and organize those bathroom drawers, too! Get ready to pare down your beauty products and toiletry items!

If you have a linen closet, we’ll tackle that this week, as well. Since I keep so much in our linen closet from actual linens to cleaning supplies I spend a little extra time cleaning it out. You’ll feel so much better when that one little closet space is organized and you know where everything is!
The third week will be spent tackling the clutter in the living room and decluttering the kids’ rooms. If you have younger children, you may need to plan to have them out of the house while you go through their old clothes and declutter kids’ toys. You’ll also need to go through the bedroom closet and clean it out. I don’t know about your kids, but mine always accumulate too much stuff, so a good decluttering sessions is totally needed!

The last week is definitely one of the most important weeks. You are going to declutter the master bedroom. The master bedroom should be your sanctuary! Don’t neglect it. Choose any day of the week to work on your master bedroom or spread the work out over the course of the week. If you have a small bedroom and need a storage solution, check out my small bedroom storage solutions post. We will also definitely declutter the master closet. My closet ends up as a catch-all storage space, so clearing that clutter makes the biggest impact in my personal physical space.
Now, we don’t tackle the whole house during this 30 Day declutter challenge. This challenge is a great starting point to help you declutter your home. I think you will be motivated to continue your decluttering journey once you actually get started!
