It’s October! October is possibly my favorite month of the year, and planning our October homeschool morning basket has been a lot of fun! I mentioned last month that I was changing things up with our morning time and now I’m ready to share what I’ve done! Let’s take a look at my October homeschool morning time binder!
Our Morning Time Binder
The biggest change to our morning time is the addition of The Homeschool Garden. I learned about The Homeschool Garden from my friend Lara, and I knew I just had to give it a try. We have the monthly membership (use code SLM5 for $5 off the monthly membership, or $5 off one of the individual sessions).
The Homeschool Garden is a beautiful, Charlotte Mason based morning time. It’s completely open and go. Just print out the resources and you have a schedule, poetry study, artist study, composer study, hymn, folksong, two poetry teatimes, nature study, a handicraft, and an art project to complete during the month.
Now, I’m not doing it exactly as scheduled, but we are using most of the resources in the Shakespeare session.
Artist Study
For our artist study, we are learning about Nicholas Hilliard.
Composer Study
Our composer study will focus on William Byrd and four pieces of his music.
Poetry
Our poet this month is William Shakespeare, himself!
Hymn
We are continuing to use Happy Hymnody for our hymn and will be learning “Abide in Me.”
Folksong
Our folksong this month is Greensleeves.
Art
The art project that is recommended in The Homeschool Garden is a lovely Quilled Flower Basket art lesson. We are planning to do a pond chalk pastel painting and a maple leaf craft. I am interested in doing the handicraft from The Homeschool Garden. I think my boys would love to make a quill pen!
Nature Study
Our focus this month is finishing up our pond study and then we will learn about leaves and trees! Here’s a look at our bookshelf!
One picture book for this month for my littles is “A Tree is Nice.”
Memory Work
So, while the subjects above on done on a loop schedule, our memory work is done daily. We are working on “Gathering Leaves” by Robert Frost, the North American countries, and counting to 10 in Spanish.
I am planning on reading “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” from Tales from Shakespeare to the kids.
What’s in Our Morning Basket October 2018
Most everything actually in our morning basket is the same as last month.
Bible
We will continue with Hero Tales and Window on the World all year.
Spanish
We are still rocking out to Song School Spanish.
Read-Alouds
Life of Fred, Kingdom Tales, and On the Banks of Plum Creek are our current read alouds.
And that’s it! Be sure to check out The Homeschool Garden!
