I love homeschool planning. In fact, I look forward to every July when I get to sit down and figure out our schedule, curriculum, book selections, and school supplies for the next homeschool year. I think many homeschool moms would agree. One of the very first pages you will find in my homeschool planner is my homeschool calendar printable. This serves as my homeschool year at a glance and helps me block out our homeschool year. Let me show you how.

Homeschool Planning Pages

For the past two years, I’ve gone back to using my teacher Happy Planner as my homeschool planner. I purchased a Happy Planner punch and am able to add any homeschool planner printables that I want. It’s been a great way to regular customize my homeschool planner.

I get my homeschool planning pages from a variety of resources. One of my favorite homeschool planners is the Charlotte Mason Mother’s Homeschool Designer from Everyday Graces.

I’ve also found some really great Charlotte Mason planners on Etsy.

When looking for a homeschool planner, I want something that includes weekly planners, a place to track field trips, a reading log, and preferably something with a monthly calendar.

Homeschool Weekly Schedule Printable

I know have a lovely homeschool weekly schedule printable available in my shop, too!

One of the first pages in my planner is my year at a glance. I can quickly see when we are going to have school and which days we have off.

Behind my year at a glance calendar, I always keep an attendance record so I can keep track of all of our school days. Here’s a great free attendance sheet.

I also keep calendars from various extracurricular activities in my homeschool planner. This allows me to easily see what we have going on with the different groups we are a part of.

This year I have decided to plan our homeschool schedules by term. I am using Mater Amabilis as our main curriculum. I have printed out term plans for each of my children so I can get an overall big picture of everything that is needed per term.

I use a lot of note pages to brainstorm book selections for each of my children, as well as books or our homeschool morning basket. Our morning basket has certainly evolved over the years. I plan to share what it will look like this year over on my YouTube channel.

Next, I have monthly dividers where my monthly calendars live. Here I can write down specific events on the days they will happen.

I enjoy keeping a mother culture page to help me keep track of important habits and ideas.

Homeschool Planning Calendar Year at a Glance

I like to mark three different things on this calendar at a glance. I use these highlighter pens to mark off the weeks we have school, the weeks we are off on vacation, and the holidays.

Down in the notes section I will make a key. I’ll draw a little square in the color for our school days and write “School” next to it. I’ll do the same for vacation and holidays. We school on a sabbath schedule, so we take a week off every six weeks. This calendar helps me visualize our homeschool schedule. You can get an idea how I plan my Sabbath homeschool schedule with my post on year round homeschooling.

    What About Lesson Plans?

If you make your own lesson plans, you will likely want somewhere to plan those. I like to keep my preschooler’s lesson plan pages from my Homeschool Preschool planner in my Happy Planner behind the month in which I use them. I’m doing something a little different for my older kids.

I have printed out a tentative weekly schedule for each of my older children and placed it at the front of my planner. We have switched from a homeschool curriculum that came with a teacher’s manual that told me what to do each week for all of my kids, to a more Charlotte Mason based homeschool curriculum that gives each child their own schoolwork to do each day.

I can then take that weekly schedule and fill in their weekly lesson plans in their morning time menus so they know exactly what to do each day. I think this system for our homeschooling schedule is going to be a good fit for us.
