We don’t have a schoolroom. Our home just isn’t big enough for one. That’s okay, though! we do school all over the house.
One of the most often used areas in our home is the dining room table. The kids do their coloring and painting here and Bug does his worksheets at this table. It’s where we sit to have breakfast and read our Bible story, too.The Fisher Price Space Saver high chairs have been well worth the investment. The kids can use them as either a high chair or booster seat. My almost four year old still uses his, but it’s going to have to get passed down to baby brother before long!
The kids’ play kitchen is also located in our kitchen. The empty wall will hold their calendar and morning boards once I get them finished!
We have a cabinet also located in the kitchen that holds the play kitchen food. It also holds a container that I will place our calendar supplies and flashcards in. The Leapfrog laptops and Bug’s camera are also in this cabinet. The shelf above the cabinet holds my cookbooks.
We do have a class pet. Her name is Lizzy and she is a baby iguana. She actually belongs to my husband, and yes, I’m afraid of how big she is going to get!
I keep the workbooks, coloring books, and supplies we use regularly on top of the fridge to keep them out of reach of little hands. I saw on Stacy Makes Cents‘ facebook page that you could use an old dish rack to organize these sorts of materials, so that’s what I did! They are easy to find now!
I keep miscellaneous supplies and books in a cabinet in the tiny office that Mr. Simple and I share. It’s still not really “put-together” since we moved in here six months ago!
The living room is the place where we do a lot of reading and playing. Two shelves in the entertainment center hold the books we are currently reading as well as some puzzles. Some toys are also stored in the living room.
Our playground is our yard. The kids have about three acres of mostly wooded area to explore. This land still needs a lot of work, but in the meantime there is no shortage of rocks for the kids to play with!
So that’s pretty much it! We still have a lot of things to set up and do!
Joanie, After 17 years of homeschooling, I discovered, like you, that a little time spent organizing pays off big time later. It looks like you’re off to a great start this school year. God bless you as you homeschool. As I wrote in the first chapter of my book homeschooling was the hardest thing I ‘ve ever done, but if I had it to do over again, I’d do it in a heartbeat. So glad I stopped by from Be Not Weary 🙂
I know I’m a little late commenting, but I am also just starting our homeschool journey. My son is 3 and a half and we do a lot of unstructured learning… we use dry erase boards a lot, he thinks it’s awesome to be able to erase it. We also LOVE Leapfrog, the Letter Factory DVD helped so much with teach my son his letter sounds! I just started a homeschool facebook page, I left you the link. I am glad I stumbled upon your page on pinterest, we have a lot in common. Good luck in your homeschool journey!
