We recently finished the moon unit in My Father’s World Kindergarten and I am so excited to share with you the things we did. I am having so much fun teaching kindergarten to my kids this year. We have added in plenty of fun activities for everyone, so it has been going much more smoothly than the first time I did this curriculum. Let’s jump right into our moon unit ideas and activities for kindergarten!

My kids have been loving our book basket and choosing different books for me to read to them during the day and before bed. These were definitely favorites!
Moon Crafts for Kindergarten
The first craft we did was a foil moon painting craft. I traced a circle onto a blank piece of paper. I then had the kids use a ball of foil to “stamp” gray paint onto the circle to represent craters for the moon.
While our moon was drying, we used white paint to dot stars onto black construction paper. We then cut out the moon and glued it onto our night sky. It turned out so cute!
The next craft we did was a simple shape rocket. I got the pattern for this shape rocket printable and we talked about the different shapes while we formed our rockets!
Moon Phases with Oreos
I bought this super cute Moon Phase activity sheet from Teachers Pay Teachers and I’m pretty sure it was the biggest hit of the unit because my kids love Oreos!

Moon Dust Tactile Activity
My Father’s World suggests a tactile activity to help kids learn to write. We decided to make moon dust to practice writing our letter Ms! I just used salt, black food coloring (it turned out green), and some glitter. This was another big hit in our house!
Moon Dough
Finally we made moon dough! This was super messy, but my daughter had a lot of fun with it. I just combined four cups of flour with 1/2 cup vegetable oil and let her go to town with scoops and cookie cutters. The texture is really fun to play with!
And that’s it for our Moon Unit activities! We did use cardboard boxes to build a rocket ship and the kids had a lot of fun pretending to blast off to the moon, so this unit was awesome for imaginative play.
