A couple of years ago I started a new tradition with my kids. I grabbed a big Christmas gift bag and filled it with fun items for our Christmas Eve gathering. It is now a Christmas tradition in our house and we love Christmas activities.
Every year I put together a special Christmas Eve bag with little items that mean a lot to my kids. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to put together your Christmas Eve bag. I have several Christmas Eve gift ideas both for your wee little ones, and your older kids.

Christmas Eve Gift Ideas for Kids

These gift ideas are great for little ones.
- Santa Key – Our current home doesn’t have a fireplace, so every year I put our Santa Key in the gift bag. This one is simple, buy once and use again and again. The Santa Key has special magic and allows Santa to come into our house to drop off the presents!
- PJ’s – I love cute Christmas pj’s for the little ones!
- Hot Cocoa – Of course, you need hot cocoa! Add a bag of mini marshmallows, too!
- Board Games – Guess Who – This year I’m putting Guess Who in our bag, but you can add any family game you want! This is so good for family togetherness.
- Popcorn – Popcorn goes great with a movie. We use this popcorn maker.
- Candy Canes – These mini candy canes would be fantastic in the hot cocoa.
- Christmas Movies – Rudolph – Add a Christmas movie to watch before bed. My kids love Rudolph!
- Reindeer Food
- Snowman Poop
- Christmas Book like Had He Not Come
- Hot Apple Cider Mix
Christmas Eve Gift Ideas for Tweens and Teens
Many of the ideas above would work well for older kids, too. Instead of pj’s you could put in some fuzzy slippers. A new mug would also be a fun addition to the Christmas Eve bag (or box). You could throw in some chapstick and choose movies geared toward an older audience. Here are some more ideas:
- Christmas socks
- Christmas shirts
- Ear buds and Christmas Music
- Sparkling Cider
- Puzzle
Christmas Eve Gift Box Ideas for Adults
- Cologne or perfume
- Bath bombs
- Specialty chocolates
- Personalized glass
- Pre-mixed alcoholic drink
We have assembled our Christmas Eve gifts in a Christmas Eve Box and a Christmas Eve bag. The Christmas Eve gift box just adds a little something fun to our Christmas Eve traditions. The kids love sitting by the fire and opening their Christmas Eve box so we can do a fun activity together as a family.
Christmas Eve Traditions
We are really big on Christmas Eve traditions around here. Once we open our Christmas Eve gift box we immediately put on our Christmas pajamas, make some hot cocoa, and play the new game that we have received in the box.
We all enjoy our candy canes in the cocoa and then we play our Christmas movie while eating popcorn before we get ready to turn into bed after reading a Christmas book.
Right before bed we put out Santa’s cookies, some reindeer food for his reindeer, and a glass of milk. Everyone goes to bed so we can get ready for Santa!
I do miss our annual Christmas Eve party that we used to do with my extended family. We’d have yummy food and play fun Christmas games together. Last year we were able to go home in December to visit family and have a little Christmas party. It’s always fun to have a Christmas gathering.
