I’m still slowly working on decorating our home and making it my style! I’ve added small pieces here and there, and today in our large family farmhouse tour I am going to show you my cozy farmhouse style reading corner. I created this reading nook as a special place for me to sit and do read-alouds with the kids and also just to read and journal for myself. I love the simplicity of it and how it came together!
Reading Nook Ideas for the Living Room
Our reading nook is located to the left of our fireplace. I thought it was the perfect spot to set up a fun and functional spot away from the TV so I could read!
When pulling together the elements for this reading corner, I knew I wanted a comfortable chair, an end table, and decoration for above the space to tie it all together.
I began with my end table. My grandparents actually found the end table at a yard sale, I believe. It came with a match that is beside my sectional in the same room. Someone had refinished the top of the end table and chalk painted the bottom. I didn’t have to do anything for it!
Next, began the search for the perfect chair. I had an idea and knew that I wanted a wingback chair, but didn’t want to pay the price I was finding. I scoured Facebook marketplace for quite some time before I found a lady who was selling a set of wingback chairs for only $60 and they were in awesome condition! The pattern wasn’t to my liking, but I was impressed.
I thought about making my own slipcovers, but I don’t own a full sewing machine and I have a lot to learn before I take on bigger projects, so I found slipcovers on Wayfair.com. The material I purchased was more see-through than I liked, so I put a white sheet under the slipcover so the pattern won’t show through.
Next, I wanted a basket to corral all of my reading materials. I settled on this cute Pioneer Woman basket. The only thing I’m missing is a lamp. I just haven’t figured out what kind I want to put in this spot yet!
Reading Corner Decorating Ideas
I often switch out the pillows and throw blankets. Our main color scheme in the living room is a mix of blues, whites, and grays, so this cute throw blanket from Walmart goes well with the space. I got the pillow cover from Hobby Lobby, and it gives off that Farmhouse vibe I was looking for.
I decorated the wall above the space with a set of shelves from Walmart that I chalk painted. I also used a couple of frames to add in pictures of my family. I got the little vase decorating plaque from Walmart and liked the country look of it.
The Home Sweet Home and Love signs are both from Minted.com. I’ve had them for a while and still love them.
I try to keep the space clutter-free, but I love to do my Bible journaling and personal reading in this spot. Have you set up a cozy reading nook for yourself?
