Our homeschool morning basket has been a part of our homeschool for the last few years, and it is definitely one of my favorite parts of our homeschool. The things we have had in our basket has ebbed and flowed as i adjusted what we were doing to fit into the current things going on in our lives. Since this homeschool year was a baby year for us, we have gone very slowly with our morning time plans from The Homeschool Garden. We just finished up our France themed homeschool morning basket and I am so excited to show you what we did.
France Themed Homeschool Morning Basket
My oldest daughter has really been interested in France lately, so I was thrilled to find a new session in The Homeschool Garden on France! The Homeschool Garden includes everything you need for a wonderful morning time. You get memory work, hymn study, composer study, poetry, nature study, artist study, copy work, tea time recipes and ideas, an art lesson, and extras, too!
There is always a schedule included, but we just did the activities at our own pace this time around. I did use our memory work from My Father’s World Rome to the Reformation instead of what was included in THG. We memorized 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 and the kids worked on poetry memorization from their language arts. We skipped composer study this time, but we tried to do most everything else from THG.
French Homeschool Tea Time
My daughter and I were both really excited about the tea times because we love poetry tea times. We made baked brie and found out that we really don’t like brie, haha! We also learned about the Notre Dame during one of our tea times. I try to do a tea time a couple of times a month, so the tea times in THG work out well for us.
French Books for Homeschool Morning Basket
The Homeschool Garden includes a book list. Above you will find some of the books that I checked out from the library. My daughter also started reading The Family Under the Bridge.
Hymn & Folksong
My husband invested in an Apple HomePod for us and I love it. I can ask Siri to play just about any song you can think of. Our hymn for this morning time was “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” We did not focus on the folksong this time, though. I keep the printables for these in our morning time menus.
Poetry
We read some beautiful poetry during this session by Paul Verlaine. I really love “Clair de lune.”
Copy Work
Currently I assign cursive copy work to my oldest son. He worked on copy work from “The Little Glass Slipper.”
Art and Artist Study
This session’s artist study is one of my favorites. We learned about Vincent van Gogh and my daughter recreated Starry Night with the included tutorial. It turned out so beautifully!
We loved looking at van Gogh’s work.
Here is a picture my daughter drew of herself in Paris.
Nature Study and Handicraft
I was really excited about our nature study during this session, too! We learned about several different culinary and medicinal herbs. The kids did a nature study drawing of Roman Chamomile with the included tutorial.
We haven’t done the handicraft just yet. There are instructions for sewing a nature study bag. It’s still on our list of things to do, though!
