If there’s one thing parents are concerned about it’s their child’s sleep. With six kids in our home, good sleep is imperative. I noticed we were having some definite sleep struggles with our boys, so I learned they just weren’t comfortable at night. So today I want to talk about how to choose a mattress for your child and our experience with Saatva twin mattresses.

How To Choose The Best Mattress for Your Child

My biggest tip when it comes to picking the perfect mattress for your child is to use the same criteria you would use to choose a mattress for yourself! Good mattresses will last 10 years or more, so it’s important to choose a quality mattress that will grow with your child.

We typically transition our kids from crib mattresses around three years old. Our older boys have been in bunk beds for a few years now, and the mattresses they were sleeping on were given to us by family members.

I noticed my oldest son especially was struggling with staying asleep. He just was not comfortable. His old, worn out mattress was not providing him with the support he needed for a restful night’s sleep. He was waking up repeatedly throughout the night and was very unpleasant in the morning.

It was time for new mattresses for the boys’ bunk beds!

Mattress Firmness for Child

Most mattresses come in three different levels of firmness. You can get plush, firm, and extra firm. Most people do well with a firm mattress, especially stomach sleepers. For those who sleep on their backs extra firm may be more comfortable.

We decided to go with the middle of the road firmness for our kids for a just right mattress firmness.

Mattress Materials for a Child

Quality materials are very important to us and they need to be taken into consideration if your child has allergies.

My oldest has some allergies, so finding an organic cotton cover and pillow top was important to us.

What Is the Best Twin Mattress for Kids?

Saatva contacted us to review their luxury mattress and I jumped at the chance. This brand of mattress couldn’t be easier to order and is so well reviewed I knew it was the answer to our mattress woes.

We received two Saatva luxury mattresses to try out on our boys’ bunk beds. I chose the firmness I wanted and the mattress height, and a wonderful moving company came to our home with our new mattresses.

They unwrapped them and set them up on the boys’ beds, then removed the old, worn out mattresses so I didn’t have to worry about figuring out how to throw them away! It was a wonderful experience.

We all had to try out the mattresses. They are soooo comfortable! I would love to sleep on these mattresses if I didn’t already have a fairly new mattress.

The first night my oldest son slept all night. I promise you, we have not had any issues with him getting up in the middle of the night anymore. He is so much more comfortable and in a much better mood when he wakes up in the morning! WIN!

Saatva Luxury Mattress

So, let’s talk about these Saatva mattresses.

Saatva is an online mattress company specializing in luxury mattresses. These are not your typical cheap mattresses. They are made for the ultimate comfort AND they are made to last. Plus, they are made in America!

An interesting fact about these mattresses is that they are built with a “coil on coil” construction. The top coils are individually wrapped to respond to your body, while the bottom coils are built with a steel tempered support base. These mattresses will last 10-15 years and perform well the entire time.

Each mattress comes with an anti-sag edge lumbar support, and an organic cotton cover and Euro pillow top. To say this mattress is comfortable is an understatement. It feels amazing!

The process for ordering these mattresses was so simple and set-up was a breeze. I highly recommend Saatva mattresses for anyone on the market for a new mattress!
