Welcome to our second post in the Poppins Book Nook! April’s theme was Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. We decided to explore the theme a little further and read “Curious George Rides a Bike” by H.A. Rey. My oldest son LOVES Curious George. This is actually one of the original Curious George books and I was lucky enough to find it in an antique store.

Learn how to fold a paper boat like Curious George!

Curious George Rides a Bike” is pretty awesome. It has a lot of transportation themed stuff going on. George gets a bicycle from his friend, the man in the yellow hat. He ends up crossing paths with the newspaper delivery boy who gives him some newspapers to deliver.

Well, George is always very curious and he ends up making paper boats out of the newspapers! George ends up damaging his bike and running into a traveling circus that wants him to participate in the show! Curious George gets into trouble when he feeds an ostrich a bugle, but as always, he redeems himself by tracking down an escaped bear cub!

There are actually instructions inside the book for how to make a paper boat! This is one of the reasons I chose that as our activity for the book.

  1. Curious George is always a hit at our house too! I’ve often wondered how those paper boats really float – but it looks like they do, so that’s what matters! (Although my daughter probably would have stopped when she realized she made a hat and been happy with that! lol!)

  2. My kids love that mischievous monkey! I love the boat idea. I would never figure it out but your picture tutorial is wonderful! We’ll have to try them!

  3. My kids love Curious George. We are going to have to try our hand at making a newspaper boat!

Thank you for helping to bring a spoonful of reading fun to the Poppins Book Nook this month!
