Whew! We are coming up on the end of the month of August and I am really trying hard to get in some large family meal planning for ALL of our meals and snacks. It’s been a while since I’ve done some bulk shopping, so my latest grocery haul was higher than the usual $150-200 I like to spend for our family of eight per week. I really need to set aside some money for a big bulk shopping trip soon! This large family meal plan has some new, yummy meals on it! I am so excited to change up our regular routine!

Large Family Meal Plan – Late Summer

I decided to do our grocery shopping at Walmart this time. I’ve been alternating between Walmart and Aldi and doing a lot of research on price comparisons. I have found that Walmart is the same or lower on several items I regularly buy.

I’ve also found that Aldi appears to have great prices, but some of their packages are smaller. I can buy a bigger package from Walmart for less than I would spend on two packages at Aldi. Of course, some of Aldi’s prices are unbeatable.

What it comes down to for me is convenience. I tried Instacart (Save $10 if you want to try it with my referral code!) for a while, and the prices are higher at Aldi on Instacart than in the store. You either have to pay $9.99 a month or a delivery fee on each delivery + a tip for your shopper. Your shopper may or may not buy Aldi bags. If they do, those will be added to your bill. While Instacart saves me from having to go into the store, it’s not worth the extra.

I tried just taking all of my kids grocery shopping at Aldi, but that wasn’t going well. I would end up completely frazzled from trying to concentrate on my list while diverting kids from all the “treats” they wanted.

For the most part I’m sticking to Walmart and their grocery pick-up service. (Save $10 if you use my referral code as a first time user!) We will still run into Aldi for some things like their Take-n-Bake Pizzas. We do have a Sam’s membership, but the nearest Sam’s is in a different city. I’ve been putting in orders for diapers, wipes, and household items.

Unfortunately, many items do not have free shipping unless you have a Plus membership. I would like to get back into monthly bulk shopping, but I’m not sure how we would make that work for our family as far as what times we could go shopping.
