St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Bin

One of my favorite things to do for my preschoolers is to create sensory bins. They are so much fun to put together and they are great for helping little ones build fine motor skills and practice imaginative play. Today I am going to show you a super fun and cute St. Patrick’s Day sensory bin featuring a cute little leprechaun, lots of shamrocks, and a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
How To Make a St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Bin
To begin, you’re going to need a tub, or bin to contain the filler. For this bin we are using an 8 quart dish pan. Large storage containers that you can put a lid on work really well, too.
Our filler for this St. Patrick’s Day sensory tub is dyed corkscrew pasta. If you need help with making dyed pasta, check out this tutorial for dyed pasta for sensory play. We also added in some green ice to the filler for a variety in texture.
Our super cute leprechaun is from Hobby Lobby. He’s just so happy! We added in lots of felt shamrocks, which would make an awesome handicraft for older children. We also added in some glittery shamrocks, too! Definitely check your local Dollar Stores and craft stores for little treasures you can add to your sesnory bins.
Another fun feature of this sensory bin is the pot o’ gold! You can use mini cauldrons and little gold coins to simulate that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
I also added in some rainbow colored craft sticks to make a little rainbow in the sensory bin. I thought it turned out really cute and can help kids learn the colors of the rainbow. You can even sit down with them and teach them the old ROY G BIV with the craft sticks to learn the colors of the rainbow in order!
What a super fun way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! Most kids love to play in sensory bins. I highly recommend you wait until after your child turns three or whenever they are no longer putting things in their mouths to introduce sensory bins. I love introducing a sensory bin after we read a fun story like, “How To Catch a Leprechaun,” so they can reenact the story.
