I’m so excited to share another one of our kindergarten letter activities posts with you. We have had so much rocking along through My Father’s World Kindergarten and I’m having a blast sharing different ideas we are incorporating into our days. I feel like I’ve really gotten a system down when it comes to teaching this kindergarten curriculum alongside the Rome to the Reformation curriculum with my older kids! Woohoo! Today we are going to talk about the U is for Us Kindergarten activities and ideas we used for the letter U!

U is for Us Activities for Kindergarten

This was the first unit we completed after I gave birth to my seventh child, so we went very light on the extra activities we did. Of course, we completed all of our phonics, math, and Bible reading activities that go with the curriculum each week, but I do like to add in extra things where I can because the kids think it’s fun and I do, too!

Our words to remember this week were, “God made us wonderful,” so we talked a lot about our new baby, people of different ethnicities and backgrounds, and our five senses. We are studying anatomy in Rome to the Reformation, so the kids have had a pretty good introduction to that topic.

I decided to really discuss our five senses with the kids informally. We talked about how different things feel when we touch them, I brought up how my candles smell, how loud the baby sounds when she cries and why her cry is loud, how God gave us eyes to see all kinds of wonderful things, and how good or bad things taste.

U is for Us Craft for Kindergarten

Our craft for this unit was so simple, yet the kids loved it so much. I had them draw a self portrait. My newly six year old completely drew his portrait on his own. My four year old asked me to draw an outline for her, and she filled it in herself.

Five Senses Popcorn Activity

Our snack for this unit included a simple five senses activity. I used these Popcorn Five Senses booklets and the kids and I made air popped popcorn together! Then, we labeled how we thought the popcorn sounded, tasted, smelled, looked, and felt. It was an easy and tasty activity!

U is for Us Books for Kindergarten

I’m going to give you a warning, the recommended book for this unit is “Love You Forever” and it’s a tear jerker if you’re caught off guard. Our other books focused on family and the five senses. Take a look at what we read!
