If you feel overrun by the shoes in your home, you’ll definitely need to check out these best shoe storage ideas for small spaces!
With nine people in this house, I often find myself tripping over pairs of shoes multiple times a day. It can be hard living in a small house with a large family! Whether you live in a small apartment, or just a small house, it’s definitely important to figure out a function storage space for all of the shoes! Today I’m going to share how we have managed to store shoes in our large family, as well as give you lots of ideas for managing the shoe collection in your home!

DIY Shoe Storage Ideas
Do you need a creative way to hide your family’s shoes? Since our small home doesn’t have much of an entryway, I really needed somewhere to store the shoes we use on a daily basis.
My husband built us a farmhouse coffee table years ago with storage underneath. I started thinking that there was definitely a way I could make use of that storage, so I purchased some plastic baskets for the shoes and a large wicker basket to hold extra blankets.
The three baskets fit under the coffee table perfectly! Now, the kids have easy access in the living room (which is the main room of our home) to store the shoes they use daily.
I chose plastic bins for the shoes because they are easy to wipe clean, but if they don’t match your aesthetic you can opt for other baskets.
Wire baskets look great in a living space, but they will likely show the shoes and won’t contain dirt as well.
I love the look of wicker baskets and they can be a great choice for storing shoes if that’s the look you like.
Wooden crates look awesome and can go with any decor!
There are also so many ideas for containing your shoe clutter.
My favorite small entryway shoe storage ideas include using benches with hidden storage.
We used a shoe storage bench like this one for many years in multiple homes when we had a little entryway. The kids could easily sit beside the front door on the bench to put their shoes on. It was so helpful and a great way to keep daily shoes accessible!
What if you need somewhere to store extra shoes in your small closet? Admittedly, I do not own a lot of shoes. I try to keep just what I need and each of my kids only owns 3-4 pairs of shoes, as well. I definitely feel when you have a limited space only owning one pair of shoes for each occasion definitely helps with the clutter, but there are certainly ways to find extra storage space if you are a shoe lover!
Great Shoe Storage Ideas
Even if you don’t have a lot of space, you likely have some sort of closet you can utilize for shoe storage. Even a small closet can offer some floor space for shoe racks. If you have a walk-in closet you have even more options for shoe organizer ideas.
Do you have shoe shelves in your closet? Try placing these clear shoe boxes on the shelves in your closet to organize and contain your shoes.
If you have a little corner available in your bedroom, this shoe storage cabinet would look great and would hide your shoes in plain sight.
If you have a free wall inside of your closet, this tall shoe storage rack is a great place to store both your high heels and all of your other shoes. It’s an easy way to see what shoes you have and you can get to them easily. This shoe rack is also great for a narrow space.
If you lack closet space, store you shoes under your bed! It’s a great way to keep your shoes organized and hidden.
This tower is super cute for a walk-in closet, and can also hold other items such as purses.
I like this small shoe storage rack because you can customize it to fit your space.
Over the Door Shoe Storage Organizer
Always make sure to take advantage of vertical space. Hang one of these shoe storage organizers over your closet door to keep your shoes organized, contained, and easily accessible.
I personally use this shoe rack in my closet for my small shoe collection. I keep just enough shoes to fill the rack, and I know I can expand the shoe rack when we move to a different home.
Finding Unused Space for a Shoe Rack
So, you don’t have much closet space or any sort of entryway to speak of? Where else can you store your family’s shoes? You can definitely get creative here. If you have a garage, carving out a little space for shoes is a good idea.
You can also use space in your laundry room. If you have a coat closet that is another great option for a shoe rack. Get creative and look around your home for hidden spaces. Maybe you can put an under bed shoe organizer under your couch or a chair. Maybe you have an unused corner by your front or back door where you can place a shoe rack.
There are so many creative ways to store your shoes!
