When summer rolls in I don’t give up my cast iron skillet recipes. I love to make wonderful desserts with my cast iron skillet. Our family has started a tradition of choosing a new dessert to make every Sunday. On this particular Sunday, I chose to make a lovely skillet peach crisp to serve topped with vanilla ice cream. This is one of my easier cast iron skillet desserts. You’re going to love this peach crisp!
Crunchy Peach Crisp
The key to a crunchy peach crisp is to use oats, brown sugar, flour, and butter. You want to make sure you mix the everything well and incorporate the butter until the mixture becomes crumbly. The brown sugar really helps to give the topping a yummy sweetness and the flour balances out the oats and helps the entire mixture stay together. Baked in the oven, the crisp becomes crunchy and delicious!
Peach Crisp with Canned Peaches
I took the easy way out with my peach crisp and used canned peaches. They taste just as wonderful and you don’t need to add anything to the peaches. Just drain one can and use the juice from the other for a delicious peach filling for this peach crisp.
You can, of course, use fresh peaches, but you will need to add some sugar and flour for the filling. Just using the canned peaches and juice makes this an easy summer dessert recipe!
Cast Iron Skillet Fruit Crisp
You can also modify this peach crisp recipe by using any other kind of fruit. We love apple crisp and blueberry crisp, too! Take this recipe and make it your own!
Stick with the basic crisp topping: 1 cup flour, 1 cup oats, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp. cinnamon, and 1/2 tsp. salt and you’re golden!
Don’t forget to top your delicious peach crisp with some vanilla ice cream. We love to pull it right out of the oven and top with the ice cream so that it melts all over the crisp. It’s so good!
