Today I’m sharing a post I have had several questions about. A lot of people are confused about how My Father’s World family cycle works. We have used My Father’s World homeschool curriculum for years now, and I have a pretty good handle on how the cycle works, especially for those teaching multiple kids, so let me explain it to you!

My Father’s World Family Cycle

My Father’s World takes an interesting approach to educating children. MFW is divided into three main programs.

Discover – The Discover section is designed for children in preschool to second grade. If you’re just beginning your homeschool journey with young children, this is where you will begin. They have a two homeschool preschool programs, All Aboard the Animal Train and Voyage of Discovery. Their kindergarten program is called God’s Creation A to Z, their first grade program is Learning God’s Story, and they have a program for 2nd or 3rd grade called Adventures in U.S. History.

Once your child reaches third grade, they move into the Investigate Program, which is designed for 3rd to 8th graders. This is where we really integrate all of our children in a single package. History is learned chronologically with one main time period taught per year.

The lesson plans come with ways to tailor each lesson to the ages of your children. It makes teaching multiple ages a breeze. Each child completes their math and language arts on their own level, but history, science, and Bible all are combined and taught together.

7th and 8th graders gain more independence with their own science courses separate from the rest of the family.

Once children reach 9th grade, they are ready for the Declare Program. High school courses are for independent learners with the parent serving more as a guide and less as a teacher.

What learning style is My Father’s World curriculum?

My Father’s World is not one particular learning style. It combines Charlotte Mason ideas, classical education, and unit studies with a biblical worldview. We’ve enjoyed poetry study, picture study, memorization, lots of unit studies, notebooking, learning Greek and Latin roots, and lots of other things.

I have personally enjoyed the variety in educational approaches and the ease in which my kids have taken to learning with My Father’s World.

How to use My Father’s World curriculum with multiple children.

Let me explain how our family has used My Father’s World with multiple children. I began with the kindergarten curriculum with my oldest child. My preschooler tagged along with him. He moved into the first grade curriculum while I used my regular resources to teach my daughter to read. She did bible and everything else with my oldest. She continued to do curriculum with my oldest while doing her own language arts and math.

When my fourth child reached kindergarten, I started over with MFW Kindergarten for him and my fifth child. My three children are going through the Investigate program together while doing their own language arts and math. I will do the same with my younger three children and once they reach 2nd grade, they will join in the Investigate cycle wherever the older children are. Once my kids reach 9th grade, they will move out of the Investigate cycle into independent high school learning with Declare.

Writing it all down seems confusing, but it actually works very seamlessly.
