I cannot believe it’s been four years since I officially started homeschooling! How in the world do I already have a third grader? Nevertheless, my boy is growing up and it’s been such a fun journey to see how much he has learned and to choose his third grade curriculum. We are still continuing with My Father’s World curriculum, but now that he is in the third grade, I have more leeway with choosing other pieces of curricula for him. Below you will find what I have chosen for him for his independent learning.
Third Grade Homeschool Curriculum
English
Language Lessons for Today Grade 3
This is recommended by My Father’s World. We used LLFT last year, and I love the simplicity of it. This text is based on the Charlotte Mason method and has worked well for us.
Spelling
Spelling Power is also recommended by MFW. I will admit that it does seem intimidating, but I’m trusting MFW on this recommendation. I am using an older edition that I found at a consignment sale for only $2.
Reading
I am choosing books for Bug’s independent reading this year. He is still not crazy about reading on his own, so I have only chosen three books so far that I think he will enjoy.
Math
I love Math Mammoth. It is easy to teach and my son has grown with leaps and bounds with his math. We are actually going to finish up the 2nd grade text and then move on to the third.
Handwriting
Bug is going to learn cursive this year. Handwriting is another area where we need to see some improvement. I chose this curriculum because it has good reviews.
Typing
We are also learning to type this year! I chose to use typing instructor for kids because it looks fun. I am going to have him practice his typing three times a week.
Coding
Because he loves computers, I got him a coding book from Usborne. This is not something I am requiring from him, but it is something for him to do for fun.
Enrichment
Both of my kids are going to an enrichment school once per week. They are going to have fun learning art, music/drama, and a couple of other classes.
And that’s it! If you want to see the other things we are studying, go check out my post on My Father’s World ECC!

Love the books you chose for independent reading!
My sons love the typing instructor for kids!
I clicked on a few of the links you had in here. I think my third grader will love Mr. Popper’s Penguins and Stuart Little. Thanks for the suggestions of them!!
