This school year we are learning about elections and doing a study of the United States Constitution for the first time. I’m so excited to teach my kids about the United States government and how our election process works. In today’s blog post, I’m sharing all of the resources I’m using to create a U.S. elections and Constitution Unit Study.
U.S. Election and Constitution Homeschool Resources
I have found so many great resources for a reasonable cost. I am so excited to share all of these resources with you tdoay!
U.S. Elections Study Resources
We are spending about a week learning about the election process and I have to admit this has been one of the most interesting studies we have done as a family. Everyone is engaged, which is awesome!
The first resource I’m sharing is the 2024 Election notebooking pages. We are using these in all sorts of ways. I gave the kids pages to find out biographical information about all of the candidates running for office, as well as the key issues they are talking about in their campaigns.
There are also vocabulary pages if you’re interested in having your kids define words, as well as pages to track the electoral vote.
My kids’ favorite assignment is creating a campaign ad for their chosen candidate. There are plenty of blank notebooking pages for any assignment!
We are also using the Bonfire Dads Tea Time Guides, and began with the Presidential Elections guide. It was so fun and easy, and now we are planning an election party!
Books about the Presidential Election for Kids
- For Which We Stand – This is our main book that we are using to learn all about elections. It’s a relatively new book with a lot of up to date information. Some of the drawings of characters in the book may look like they learn a certain way politically, but I have not seen any bias in the information presented.
- What’s the Big Deal About Elections – This is a cute picture book that we listened to on YouTube.
- The Night Before Election Day – This one is great for younger kids and is also on YouTube.
- If I Ran for President – This is another great picture book for younger kids. Check it out on YouTube.
U.S. Constitution Resources
To learn about the United States Constitution and how our government was formed, we are using the Bonfire Dads Liberty and Justice Teatime Guides. This is meant to be done with dads leading. My husband may not be available to lead all of these for us, but they are still really fun and interesting, plus they are short and great for all of my kids’ varying attention spans!
Also, the poster seen in the above picture is great for the homeschool room. It comes in a two pack with the Declaration of Independence.
We are also doing some copywork! Check out our free Preamble to the United States Constitution copywork and we will soon add our Bill of Rights Copywork, too!
U.S. Constitution Books for Kids
We have a few books that we are going to use for this study!
- Shh! We’re Writing the Constitution – This will be our main “spine” for this study. I will read a bit from it each day.
- A More Perfect Union – This is a picture book that will also be like a spine for my younger kids.
- What Is the Constitution? – I will have my sixth grader read this for his independent reading.
- The Interactive Constitution – This is such a fun book! It has lots of moving parts with so much information!
I just love teaching my kids with literature and living books. We may add in some 3-d models. This LEGO set looks really neat. I also really enjoy adding in fun YouTube videos. I include a playlist in my free Preamble copywork mentioned above.
I have a whole YouTube video you can watch to see inside some of these resources! Watch it here!
