It’s time to share another of our kindergarten alphabet activities and ideas posts! I’ve had so much fun teaching kindergarten to my kids this year. Today’s post is my D is for dinosaur kindergarten activities and ideas post. We finished up the letter D unit from My Father’s World Kindergarten a few weeks ago. I have a dinosaur obsessed little guy, so I had to really make it fun!

D is for Dinosaur Activities for Kindergarten

I was so excited to plan some dinosaur activities for my kids during this unit. I knew I wanted to find some fun books and just have fun learning about dinosaurs together. My three year old is obsessed with dinosaurs. He actually got several toy dinosaurs and a dinosaur themed carry case for Christmas, so it came in handy.

We learned from My Father’s World, “Big and Small, God made them all.”

D is for Dinosaur Craft

Our dinosaur craft for the D unit was incredibly simple. I simply printed out a Tyrannosaurus Rex template and a triceratops template, cut them out, and had the kids trace them on a piece of paper and cut them out. They could decorate them, or not, however they chose.

Dinosaur Baking Soda and Vinegar Volcano Sensory Activity

Our dinosaur sensory activity was the biggest hit of the unit. I used a baking sheet, baking soda, egg carton cups, and vinegar colored with red food coloring to pull off this activity.

I cut the egg carton cups off of the egg cartons and cut holes in the top, and then I placed them on top of the baking dish lined with baking soda. I mixed up some red food coloring in the vinegar, gave the kids their play dinosaurs and the vinegar, and let them go to town!

If you do anything during this unit, you have to do this activity! Sensory activities are definitely messy, but they are also great for creative play.

Dinosaur Snack Ideas

I decided to make a dinosaur breakfast for this unit. I simply used frozen waffles and cut them in a dinosaur shape.

Then I used bananas for the spikes and the eye. He got marshmallow teeth and feet and a chocolate chip pupil. It was a fun and yummy breakfast idea that went with our theme perfectly!

Dinosaur Books for Kindergarten

Of course we had to read some fun dinosaur themed books for this unit!
